Program Note:

During the year in which so many of us were isolated from regular social interaction, my weekly piano lessons with Maria served as one of my sole sources of positivity and cultural exchange. Whether before or after our lesson, Maria would brew some ‘Czar Nikolas II’ tea and Thomas would join us for drinks, conversation, and games. The early ideas for this piece formed when, during one of those many nights, I learned that Thomas was in search of trumpet music which could somehow facilitate his powerful concert B-flat in a small, indoor setting like one of their many house recitals.

Not long after, I found myself on the cusp of a new life chapter which, for better or for worse, called me to a new part of the country. This piece now serves as a parting gift in symbolic celebration of those many wonderful evenings I spent with the Curreys, who are like family to me.
